Located in Normandy, this medieval abbey sits atop a rocky islet, surrounded by breathtaking tidal waters. Whether you’re visiting for a day trip or staying overnight, Mont Saint-Michel offers a magical experience filled with history, stunning scenic views, and a unique cultural charm.

Since we live in the Bretagne region, it is just three hours away by car. We got the chance to visit Normandy first, and visited Mont Saint Michel after.

How to Get to Mont Saint Michel from Paris

From Paris to Mont Saint-Michel

• By Train & Bus: Take a train from Paris Montparnasse to Rennes (2 hours), then a shuttle bus (1.5 hours) to Mont Saint Michel.
• By Car: Rent a car and drive from Paris (4 hours). Parking is available at the visitor center, followed by a shuttle or a 30-minute walk.
• By Tour: Join guided day tours from Paris, which include transportation and historical insights.

From Other Cities in France

• From Caen: 1.5-hour drive or a bus connection.
• From Saint-Malo: 1-hour drive or bus service.

Best Time to Visit Mont Saint Michel

• Spring (March-May) and Fall (September-November) offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds.
• Summer (June-August) is peak season with many tourists, but long daylight hours.
• Winter (December-February) provides a quieter, mystical experience, but some attractions may have reduced hours.
