When I learned that I failed to get a visa, Plan B comes into mind. As a female solo traveler, I don’t want to experience the heart’s day for another disappointment. I was heartbroken, so I want to enjoy the best as possible. I need to party, I said to myself, why don’t I return to Boracay while traveling solo?
In 2014, I was in Boracay with friends but never partied that much. I only had 3D and 2N and did the touristy stuff. So last February 14, since I am a certified adult, it was time for me to experience to party on the island of Boracay.
As a solo traveler, I loved staying in hostels because it’s where I meet different people. But that would be awesome to find your forever while traveling. 😉

How to get to Boracay from Cebu?
I booked a one-way ticket flight from Cebu to Kalibo which the arrival was in the evening. One way because I had no idea how many days I should spend in Boracay. I never regretted to book a one-way ticket as I had fun.
From Kalibo, I took the bus from Southwest Tours. I paid P650 because I purchased it from Cebu Pacific. I just wanted hassle-free that time, but there’s a cheaper way to get there. With Southwest Tours, it was all-in from bus to boat to van all way to my hostel.
Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay – a Party Hostel
Stayed couple of nights at Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay. I entered the place with a wide area reception with loud music and greeted me at a pool party. Wow! I said to myself. I wasn’t ready to party when I arrived because I was so tired and hungry.
Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay where it’s location is in Bolabog, Boracay which is a two-minute walk to Bolabog Beach where you can find the kitesurfing area. It’s also a ten-minute walk from D’Mall which is the Boracay’s hub. I love the white and blue color of the place. Having a swimming pool makes it look exciting for a hostel, I thought I was in a cozy hotel. Mad Monkey is not your ordinary hostel in Boracay.
The Swimming Pool
Although I wasn’t able to have a swim here, my excuse was it was too cold, the pool gives the perfect ambiance of the place. The pool was too eye-catching everytime you enter the hostel. There’s also a beer pong table but to be honest, I never tried how to play it, so I have no experience.

The Bar and Restaurant
It is the area where people chill, drink and party. As expected upon arrival, it was loud and noisy. Everyone was having fun and enjoyed the pool party. I enjoyed my food as well. They have activities every night which consists of a pool party, a BBQ night, a booze cruise and they have this drinking competition which you need to make your country proud. Don’t forget to check their food
The Rooms
I stayed in an A/C dorm room with four spacious bunk beds with own lights, fan, and locker. It also has a hot and cold shower. There’s another dorm room with eight bunk beds as well. They also have a private double room and twin rooms.
My Take as a Digital Nomad
There is no wi-fi inside the room so I could not work but the reception area has a wide area where I was sitting on the floor and working which it was all right for me as I saw other travelers just sitting around when they were using the wi-fi. I just sat near the socket area where I can plug and charge my laptop.

Mad Monkey Hostel Giving Back to the Community
Mad Monkey Hostels have branches in Cambodia, and they make sure to be socially responsible for providing fair wages to their staff and employees with their aim to give a positive impact on people’s lives. They’re also in partnership with different organizations for charitable support programs.
How Can You Help?
Staying at Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay, their food was indeed incredible. Of course, I tried the famous Filipino food which I ordered Chicken Pork Adobo with rice, plus mango shake. A vegan food which I forgot the name but delicious and chocolate protein milkshake. This way, revenues from the bar and restaurant help found their social responsibility programs.
My Verdict
I’ll stay here again which should be more than two nights so that I will have more time to get to know more people and join the other fun activities they have.
