First of all, let me show you my Malaysia 4 Days Itinerary, trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last September 21 to September 24, 2013. My FB friends are interested to know the total expenses I had for my first out of the country trip. This is a gift for myself as a celebration of 4 years in blogging and online work. 🙂
After a few months of receiving my passport last February 2013, I never thought I could go out of the country within a year. Thanks to Cebu Pacific for its PhP199 fare and to Metrodeal for the 3D/2N at Ibiz Hotel with City Tour & Transfers for P2999 plus 5 pesos single transaction fee online banking. For Metrodeal, the requirement is a minimum of 2 persons per room so I tagged along with a blogger friend. We added an extra night and paid for P1500.
Change of Flight Schedule
Our original flight should be Cebu – Kuala Lumpur – Cebu but suddenly a week before our flight, Cebu Pacific e-mailed me about the changed schedule to CEB – MNL, MNL – KL and going back KL – MNL, MNL – CEB. Having a connecting flight is very tiresome. Refer to the image below to see the expenses I had at the airport.
Few days before the flight, I bought some dollars at East West Bank for $102 with the exchange rate of PhP44. Upon arrival, we changed it to Malaysian Ringgit. Refer to the image below to see the details.
Tips and Tricks
If you would really like to stick on spending your pocket money, then here’s a suggestion. Our transportation would only cost us MYR 14.4 for a 4D/3N stay because our hotel was just a walking distance going to Titiwangsa Station. Our only means of transportation was only a train/MRT/LRT going to additional itineraries on our list. The tour guide/driver only fetched us during the half-day tour, hotel and airport transfers which was part of the package.
Based on other reviews that I’ve read, you can really spend less than MYR 15 for lunch and dinner a day if you are really good at spotting cheaper dishes. During the tour, our driver only spent MYR 3 for lunch. We had our free breakfast at the hotel. We were into KFC and McDonald’s for lunch or dinner which were quite expensive. If you could save a lot on your food, then you can spend a lot on shopping for souvenirs.
However, I withdrew MYR 50 on the first night. Money Exchange company was already closed on a late evening with a certain withdrawal fee. Had my excessive spending on chocolates, coffee and some few souvenirs in Beryl’s Chocolate, Jadi Batik, and China Town. I withdrew another MYR 50 with another withdrawal fee then swiped and shopped ’til I dropped in Berjaya Square Mall. I also paid a baggage fee going home from Manila to Cebu. Visa Debit usage was in Philippine Peso when I checked my balance online.
So, here’s the detailed expenses for my trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I hope you will find this blog post helpful. 🙂

To Go to Singapore or Not? – Malaysia 4 Days Itinerary
Although some friends were pushing me to go to Singapore. My blogger friend and I decided not to go due to time constraints.
It takes 4 hours by train from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Singapore and another 4 hours going back.
Traveling to Malaysia and Singapore would be better if it was a 5-day or longer trip. Of course, with no intention of shopping around. Maybe I and my friend can go to Singapore in a separate situation. 🙂
excessive spending on chocolates, coffee, Kuyawa ni ah, chocolates dyud gi pag tripan.
You should post this in a series and in planned manner.
Each location you visits should be in a table with individual post.
hi sir jobette! yep mag blog post series ko ani. wa pa tawn ko mahuman sa siquijor og napay dumaguete. hehe

Hi there. My friends and I will travel to Malaysia this coming November.. will we survive if we have 10k pocket money (for food, transpo and pasalubongs :-D) each?? This will be my first time to travel and still a newb for the must knows in planning a trip. Btw your blog is realy helpful. Cheers!
Hi Jam,
For me, I traveled 10,000 pesos cash on hand and extra money on my ATM cards. I suggest is to have at least 20,000 pesos travel fund. 😀
I am going for Malaysia first time after my family trip with bus tours from san francisco. After reading your informative blog I am able to know about the tourism in Malaysia and got many answers of my questions especially visa question ^^
love your blog!
Hi Connie, thanks for the love <3
Enjoyed your blog. Hope you come and visit Sabah, Malaysia Borneo. I enjoyed Cebu and Bohol very much and can’t wait for Manila next month!!
Hi Eva,
I’ve never been to Sabah. I hope I could visit there someday. Are you from Sabah? 😀
Hi po…Newbie here… do you think 20k is enough to survive a 10 day stay at Singapore and Malaysia?.. 5 DAYS EACH.would appreciate a reply.
Hi JP,
Everytime I go out of the country, I always bring 20K at least. Cash for 20K and for emergency sa debit card ko.
If I have to compare it with my 2nd Japan trip for 9 days, I spent like 16K. So I think ok lang sya.
I just wanna asked if you bought train cards, i mean like the storage value card in phils. Is it advisable?
I didn’t buy train cards in Malaysia.
Hi Roxanne,
I will be traveling in Malaysia by October. I will arrive there Oct 20 in the evening and go home by 25th 10 am. How much do I need if I will go there? Please give an estimate for food, transpo and pasalubong. I will travel alone 😀 Please send me an e-mail @ [email protected]

Could you please help mo how much money will I be spending for food, transportation and souvenirs. I am a solo traveller. Kindly send me an email on [email protected]. Thank you very much in advance.
Hi Aimee,
As you can see with this blog post I spent at least 20K pesos just around Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Hi roxanne!me and my mom will to malaysia on mar 20-24 our arrival from malaysia will be at mar 20 at 6pm and our departure will be at mar 24 at 6pm also, do you suggest if we can go to singapore with that schedule?
Hi Lory Mae,
In my personal opinion, for 4 days I don’t want to go to Singapore because there are several things I can visit in Malaysia. Some other people can visit Malaysia and Singapore in those 4 days. But me, NO. It’s too tiring. I’d rather get around Malaysia. Thanks.
